Mount Kenya & the Aberdares Overview
Just south of the equator in central Kenya, a three-to-four hours by road from Nairobi, sits Mount Kenya – an extinct volcano and Africa’s second highest mountain. Between Mount Kenya and the foothills of the Aberdares lies the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. One of only four private game conservancies to have been founded in Kenya, the sanctuary is the only place in Kenya where the endangered chimpanzee can be seen. It also houses the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, where you can see the world’s two remaining northern white rhino. Nearby, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is home to over 130 black and white rhino and has also built a tunnel for migrating elephants to safely cross the main road.
